Our Vision: Building a Community for Our Veterans

Patriot Project is committed to creating sustainable and innovative housing solutions for homeless veterans. Our mission is to develop, design, and build a high-quality temporary housing campus as a non-profit owner. The centerpiece of our vision is the "Tiny Homes Village"—a phased project that will start with 100 units and expand to a 300-unit campus, providing a safe and dignified environment for our veterans.

We’ve partnered with the nationally acclaimed, award-winning RSP Architects Hq from Minneapolis to lead our design efforts, ensuring that the "Tiny Homes Village" will not only meet the immediate needs of our veterans but also serve as a model for future community-focused housing initiatives.

Strategic Partnerships: Securing a Strong Foundation

Our development strategy is anchored in a community-centric Public-Private Partnership. We’re collaborating closely with the State of Arizona, the sponsor City, and County to secure land, resources, and financial incentives that will support the successful execution of this project. These strategic alliances are essential to our vision and enable us to structure the capital needed to bring this project to life.

To finance this ambitious endeavor, Patriot has enlisted the support of Barclays Finance, one of the world’s leading financial institutions. Together, we’ve designed a funding model that leverages our 501(c)(3) status, utilizing tax-exempt revenue bonds to secure 100% of the necessary capital. The State of Arizona Industrial Development Authority has also agreed to assist by serving as the “bond issuer” for the required debt.

Helping veterans find housing

The Case

The Urgency of Addressing Veteran Homelessness

As our nation continues to navigate the complexities of supporting those who have bravely served in the armed forces, it is imperative to address the pressing issue of veteran homelessness in the Gilbert, Mesa, and Phoenix areas. Recent statistics reveal a troubling reality: Arizona has one of the highest rates of homelessness among veterans. According to reports from local organizations and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), there are approximately 300 homeless veterans in Maricopa County alone. This figure underscores the urgent need for sustainable housing solutions tailored specifically to the needs of our veteran population.

Housing First Success

Success of Housing First Initiatives

The "Housing First" model has demonstrated remarkable success in other regions across the United States. This approach prioritizes providing the homeless with permanent housing without preconditions, coupled with supportive services tailored to individual needs. Cities like Salt Lake City, Utah, and Phoenix proper have implemented Housing First initiatives with proven results: reduced rates of homelessness, improved health outcomes, and higher rates of stability in housing.

Veteran Community Support

Building Supportive Communities

Moreover, the models that create a community of small homes specifically for veterans can foster camaraderie and a supportive network essential for recovery and reintegration. Such environments not only encourage social connections but also provide opportunities for skill building, peer support, and engagement in communal activities. Living in close proximity to fellow veterans creates a sense of shared experience and understanding, facilitating recovery from combat-related traumas. Research has shown that veterans living in supportive housing environments report lower levels of loneliness and higher levels of community engagement. Furthermore, small communities allow for personalized resources, such as counseling and job training, accessible right at home.

Economic Impact

Economic and Social Impact

The financial implications of supporting veteran housing extend beyond just the initial investments. Housing stability significantly reduces the burden on emergency services, shelters, and healthcare systems. Furthermore, housing veterans empowers them to contribute positively to the local economy, leading to improved overall community resilience.

By investing in veteran homes in Gilbert, Mesa, and Phoenix, we not only honor our commitment to those who have served but also enhance the well-being of the entire community. Let us come together to advocate for a solution that prioritizes compassion, collaboration, and the commitment to support our veterans in their journey towards stability and success.

Your Support Matters

We are grateful to have two lead donors in the construction of the preliminary 100-unit community located in Mesa, who will be providing both in-kind and financial support for about half of our costs. The rest is up to us. Public support is a key element of our drive to be the foundation that puts veteran homelessness in Arizona behind us. Each donation of $60,000 will enable you to name one of these new, custom-designed and ADA-fitted homes in honor of your family or maybe in memory of a particular loved one who served. This can be your legacy—a thank you for the men and women who served our nation in the highest form possible.

Please consider supporting us; if you would like us to reach out to discuss further, please fill in our contact page and our development director will be in touch.
